We have an ever increasing population of unhealthy elderly people.
Most will have at least ONE medical diagnosis. Current so called
"anti-aging" is more economically-driven than medical or
ethically-based.
The aging process starts at age 30. There are several theories of the
aging process but all of them amount to processes that affect the
system in general and our cells fundamentally.
At a cellular level 2 processes seem to be involved:
- Decline in energy production
- Structural change of proteins
The decline in energy production results from a loss in the number and
efficiency of the "energy plants" within each cell.
At a systemic level there is a decline in the adaptability and
flexibility in the autonomic nervous system (ANS). The ANS is
responsible for the regulation and control of the body' internal
environment, including how effectively the body is able to respond to
any stress.
When a protein structure changes (and these form the basis of all the
body' functional units e.g. all enzymes, carrier proteins,
communication molecules, muscle proteins, immune proteins, collagen in
the skin etc) this results in a change of its functionality.
There are several ways that proteins can become damaged, including
damage due to exposure to free radicals (highly reactive, unstable
molecules that are produced as a natural process of life, but which in
excess can cause damage). The end result is the increased stickiness of
proteins causing them to link with loss of function.
An effective anti-aging therapy brings together agents that counteract
the reduction in cell energy production and the protein damage referred
to above.
More importantly this can be achieved by natural substances without the
need for toxic pharmaceuticals. This also allows for better long term
and safe use of these agents.
